Boredom...well, boredom could lead a person to do many things. Whether they be smart or stupid was up to the bored person. So what would Aiden do? Would he be smart and find something to do in the city? Or be stupid and go wandering around the island, maybe cause trouble here and there?
He chose to be stupid.
But he was smart about it. Aiden didn't go out till well after dark, when vampires were the most active, so his own movements were less suspicious. It helped that he was an orphan, so no one really paid any attention to him. It was past midnight when he sneaked out of the city, through the forest, and found the shore. He met a couple mortals and even a few small elf children who he had a good time frightening, but he was still restless, so he meandered down the coast until he came to the mortal village.
What to do now? he wondered. Aiden knew well enough that the Elf Queen would have his head if he wreaked havoc on the village--she had a thing for keeping the peace, and pitied the mortals because they were so much weaker than the rest of the island's inhabitants--so how would he distract himself? There was surely a way here.
Mortals were always entertaining, whether he was killing, torturing, or simply bothering them, given that their reactions were so strange compared to those of the others on the island. He was a teenager by vampire's standards, as he'd been turned only about a year before, so the immortals regarded him with the attitude of an apathetic adult toward a child. But the mortals would either be frightened or fascinated by him, depending on who he ran into.
Aiden settled with lurking in the shadow of a large tree on the outskirts of the village, leaning against the hard trunk with folded arms. Who would come to visit him, then?
((Psst...Lilly...there you go...^_^))

Lilly knew she probably shouldn't have left the village but she was suffering from an insomnia attack. She just couldn't get to sleep for some reason and didn't feel like being cooped up in her apartament. She needed fresh air. Lilly pulled on a pair of black jeans that fit snugly around her hips and a blue sweatshirt over her tank top. She grabbed her iPod, the only thing that hadn't been lost when her parents abandoned her, and plugged the earphones into her ears.
The clock on her iPod told her it was well after midnight, but she didn't care. Nothing really lurked around the village. It seemed as though everything had been pretty quiet around here. Lilly had heard a rumor that a girl from the mortal village had disappeared but she paid no attention, shrugging it off as mindless gossip.
The steady beat of drums and guitars filled her head, finally letting her relax. She had been so uptight lately and hadn't exactly been the best company. The last company she had in fact was some guy she had met after a theif had shoved her to the ground. But he sort of disappeared; not that Lilly was heartbroken at all. Quite the opposite. Lilly didn't get close to many people, and only came off as a quiet, nice girl.
Lilly continued to wander, not realizing how far away from the village she had strayed. She stumbled slightly and looked down to see her shoelace was undone. She dropped to one knee and began tying it, music pumping into her head and completely oblivious to the shadowy silhouette that rested against the tree right beside her.

Long before he saw her coming, Aiden heard the faint pounding of drums and guitars, and thought the music sounded very interesting but wondered where it was coming from. So he stayed very still in the shadows, watching, waiting for the one who broke the silence with their technology to appear. Then he saw her...a girl, foolishly wandering away from the village in the middle of the night.
Now the question was: should he kill her right away, or toy with her a bit? Aiden wasn't very hungry, and he didn't like to over-eat, so he chose the latter.
She bent over to tie her shoes mere feet away from Aiden. He almost laughed, but restrained himself; maybe she was just oblivious to the world, and not as stealthy and observant as himself. He silently circled around her, giving her form a wide berth so that she wouldn't see him moving, until he was standing just behind her. Aiden crouched down so that he was level with her and pulled one of the headphones out of her right ear, the one closest to him.
"You know, you shouldn't be out this late by yourself."

Lilly bobbed her head slightly to the beat of the music...until she heard it replaced by a male voice. She shrieked and tried to jump and spin at the same time, leaving her sitting on her bum looking up at the male form that had been behind her.
Her brown eyes widened in fear as she looked at him. Her heart pounded in her chest. After a few seconds, it began to return to normal, though still quicker than her typical pulse. She slowly climbed to her feet and stood up, brushing off the dirt that had caked her backside.
She took a few steps backwards, her mind racing with questions. Where had he come from? Why was she out her alone? She mentally scolded herself for being so foolish and irresponsible. Why hadn't she listened to her friend's advice. Going out alone was dangerous, especially when you left the village boundaries. Then you were 'fair game' to some of the creatures that inhabited the island.
Lilly directed her gaze at him once more. She took a deep breath and hoped that her voice would mask the fear that pumped through her veins at that moment. "Wow, you really scared me. Um, what are you doing out here?" she said nervously and looked around. She didn't remember seeing anyone while walking, but she had been preoccupied.

Aiden laughed audibly at her reaction; it was priceless. He loved scaring mortals. He stood over her while she was disoriented and studied her for a moment...and was forced to admit to himself that she was pretty attractive. Not that he was thinking about such things...any guy would notice. Her eyes were wide with fear, and that made him smirk devilishly as he imagined how much worse it could be for her.
He could hear her heartbeat, too--it was much, much faster than usual at first, but then it slowed a bit so that it was only moderately faster than normal. It was very distracting to have that sound pounding in his sensitive ears, making the desire to taste her blood grow and grow...but Aiden kept himself under control. If he was hungrier, well...this girl wouldn't last long. Lucky for her, he was pretty full, so she wasn't in too much danger.
Aiden listened to her nervous inquisition with a single raised eyebrow. He grinned and replied, "Well yes, that was the point, you see. To scare you. It was pretty funny, considering you jumped about a foot into the air and then fell over." Of course, he was exaggerating, but oh well. "And I'm out here because...I was bored. So I thought I'd find someone to annoy." He took a few steps toward her and put one strong arm around her shoulders. "Lucky you, you're the first person I ran into."
((ick, crap...))

Lilly narrowed her eyes at him when she heard him laugh. Why do guys find it so amusing when girls are scared? She shook her head and continued to glare at him. She didn't like the way he looked at her with a single eyebrow raised, and his tone wasn't much to her liking either. "Well I'm glad I served as a source of amusement to you." She smirked at him and mocked a curtsy (sp?) "Sadly, that is the end of the amusing show tonight. If you'll excuse me,"
She shrugged out of his grasp and started walking away from him. She tried to ignore the fact that he was pretty cute and quickened her pace. He may be cute, but he's probably some weirdo. Bored my butt.... she thought angrily as she ducked beneath some branches. Why must I always find the weird ones?

Aiden was moderately suprised when she shrugged away from him so quickly--he'd been counting on having her around for a while for a fun combination scaring/flirting with. More flirting, though, because that kind of attention, more than anything in his experience, was what really made females squirm. He stared after her for a minute, almost smiling as he remembered her ready sarcasm, then remembered himself. He really didn't feel like letting her get away that easily.
So, he caught up with her.
It was simple, really. He simply employed his vampiric abilities to their extent and ran so fast his figure would have blurred to any who saw it, circled around the trees she was moving through, and cut her off once more. "What? How can you leave me so soon?" Then, a delightfully devious idea came to mind...
In one swift movement he'd grasped both her forearms with his hands, and his body was now lightly pressed against hers. He bent his head down some inches until his mouth was level with her...then he whispered, "The fun's only just begun." And, feeling rather evil and probably more elated than he should, Aiden let his mouth drop a bit lower so that he was breathing on her neck while letting his fangs extend. The vampire then gently rubbed his pearly weapons against her skin, making sure she felt the sharp points but, lucky for her, not piercing the skin...

Lilly jumped back when he appeared in front of her. How had he done that so quickly? she thought and looked at him slightly puzzled. She opened her mouth to question him but the words quickly disappeared when she felt his arms on hers and his body pressed gently against hers.
She took a sharp intake of breath and stared at him increduously. Again, she was about to question him but his next statement stopped her. Oh God... she thought and felt her stomach flip multiple times as his breath hit her neck.
Her body trembled in his grasp...especially when she felt something rather pointy against her neck. Fangs. Her eyes widened and she felt her blood begin pumping furiously through her veins. A vampire...he's a vampire! She quickly pulled herself out of the daze he had caused, and tried to push him away from her.
Sadly, she was frail compared to his strength. The most she probably succeeded in was causing him to stumble backwards or something. She looked at him with fear in her eyes. "Who are you?"

He was so very glad that he wasn't hungry; the smell of her blood, and the sound of her pounding heart and throbbing jugular, were beginning to make him crazy. A strange heat glowed inside him; it wasn't anger; it wasn't lust, though that was probably the closest word he could label the feeling with. It was something else...coupled with the discomfort of knowing he didn't understand his own feelings. The fact that she was trembling in his hands didn't help much, either.
Her fruitless struggle brought Aiden back to himself. He almost, almost, stumbled--but no, the vampiric grace and balance he'd been taking advantage of for the past year served him once more. He did, however, take his mouth away from her neck, and stare down into her eyes, in what he hoped was a hypnotizing manner. He checked his grip on her arms, making sure he wasn't harming her, and, satisfied, returned his attention to her face...
Aiden wanted to hit himself after that thought. He didn't tighten his grip, but wondered, What's gotten into me? Why should I care if she gets bruised by my hands?
He had little time to contemplate his emotions, though, for her question shook him from his reverie. Only then did he notice the fear in her eyes...but it didn't bring as much satisfaction as it should. Why? "Name's Aiden." You don't need to be afraid, he added mentally, I won't really hurt you, I promise. Aiden knew better than to just say that, though.
More of those weird feelings assailed him; he wanted her trust. "Don't run yet," he whispered, before letting go of her arms and taking a tiny step back so that there were a few inches separating them. "You don't need to be that frightened. I don't intend to kill you." His speech was blunt, his tone casual...but Aiden meant every word, and sincerely hoped he wouldn't have to chase her again.

Lilly felt herself stop struggling as his eyes locked with hers. She felt mesmerized by his gaze despite the pleading in the back of her mind. She couldn't break his gaze. Only when he looked down at her arms did she sort of gain her mind back. She swallowed the lump in her throat and tried to regain her normal heart beat. She forced a tiny smile to grace her lips. "I'm Lilly."
She took a deep breath when he stepped back from her, as if telling her he wasn't going to do anything to her. He told her not to run and even with her mind screaming at her to make a break for it, she didn't. She remained where she stood and looked at him. "Ok."
Lilly stood there awkwardly, not knowing what she should do. All logic in her mind was demanding on her to run away from him, but she didn't feel as scared as she did before. She looked him up and down, noticing his appearance. He was really good looking, that much she couldn't help but noticing.
And her neck still tingled from the feeling of his breath on her neck, but she shrugged it away as fear of his fangs. She blushed a soft pink and hoped he hadn't noticed. "Um...so...uh, if you're not going to kill me....what do you want with me?" she asked him nervously.

Aiden sensed her relax slightly, which made him relax a little, too. The awkwardness of the moment reached him, and he sincerely wanted to laugh it off like he usually would...but he had the odd feeling that, if he did just laugh, she'd think him crazy and run like he knew she must want to. It was so gratifying that she didn't run right now, that she'd done as he requested and stayed...
Oh, jeez...there is definitely something wrong with me.
He could smell her blood still, and, though easy to resist the temptations, he couldn't help but notice her blush, via both his sensitive nose and eyes. And he really, really did need to laugh, but contented himself with a brief and wide smile.
Her question suprised him, even though it shouldn't have. He looked down at her blankly for a minute, not exactly sure what to say. What did he want to do with her, if not kill or harshly torture her? He wanted to flirt with her, and make her heart beat faster, and, for all intensive purposes, torment her with attention. But he wasn't exactly going to admit that, was he now? Doing so would defeat the purpose of his actions.
So what did he tell her? Aiden decided to tell half of a white lie. He ran a hand through his half-dark, half-light hair, sweeping the long, bleached bangs from the half of his face they concealed, and answered while they smooth strands fell back into place:
"I'm not really sure, actually, except maybe spend some time with you. I'm sorry," he added, "about the whole scaring-you-thing. Can you really blame me for trying to have some fun?" He fanned his arms out and shrugged widely, looking as innocent as absolutely possible.

Lilly tried not to blush more. The way he was looking at her made her stomach flip. She dropped her brown eyes to the ground and started digging a small hole in the dirt with her shoe. He didn't answer her question right away which made her nervous. Did that mean he was going to do something to her? That was when he spoke. She looked up at him again.
She quirked an eyebrow at him when he said he wanted to spend some time with her. She smiled and tried not to giggle at his attempted innocent look. She failed. A small laugh left her mouth and she looked away again, blush returning slightly to her cheeks. "I forgive you."
Lilly sat down on the ground and rested her back against the trunk of a tree. She closed her eyes for a moment and tried to sort out her mind. She had several ideas of what they could do...but she found herself blushing extremely just at the thought of one of them. He was cute and besides the whole scaring the crap out of her thing, he seemed really nice.
Lilly wasn't typically one to flirt but she found herself wanting to flirt, or at least be flirted with. The most romantic/dating action she received was when she would fill in for her friend at the pub...and then it was from a bunch of drunk old men. Ew.
She opened her eyes once more and looked up at Aiden. "So, what do you want to do?"

When she laughed, Aiden laughed too, glad to finally get it out of his system. She said she forgave him, and he smiled very widely at her; that was the response he'd been looking for. He watched her go and sit down against the nearest tree and remained silent while she thought, for he had his own self to worry about. Why do I feel so good? he wondered, It's not like I have any real reason to. It must be that I'm having a good time and it's actually affecting me for once. It's not really anything deep...
She finally spoke, and Aiden gratefully came out of his reverie. So, what do you want to do? He frowned slightly and put his hands on his hips--though not in a girly manner. "Good question," he said, with a little laughter in his voice, "I have to confess I'm kind of a boring person. All I ever do is roam around the island at night, since I have nothing to do in the Vampire City. I'd offer an adventure by inviting you to come there with me, but I'd rather we didn't, since you will most likely get killed."
He paced for a few seconds, thinking more. He turned back to Lilly and asked, "What do you usually do at night, other than sleep? Anything interesting in the mortal village?" He'd never actually explored the village--it was the only place on the island that could claim a lack of Aiden's presence every night. He wondered if there was a bar or a club; there were plenty of those in the immortals' cities, but he knew better than to bring her there.
Aiden looked down and met her gaze, eager to hear her answer. He didn't want to spend another night alone, when there was a chance of having a friend...

Lilly scoffed at him when he said he was a boring person. "Believe me, you couldn't get more boring than me. At least you see what the Island holds. I think this is the farthest from the village I've been in a long time." Lilly gestured around her and smiled at Aiden. "So I think I can claim being boring. I pretty much just wander through the village, usually with a book or something. I love to read."
Lilly fell silent for a moment as she tried to think of what else the village held. It didn't have much. "There is the restaurant and pub. My friend's family owns it. I work there sometimes when they are short of hands." He asked her what else she did at night. She shrugged. "Other than sleeping...well I haven't really been able to sleep lately. I dont' know why. I've just wandered around the village mostly. Tonight is the first night I actually left it. I guess I got caught up in my music."
She stopped talking again, hoping he wouldn't think she was babbling on and on. Though she didn't tell him, she really did want to go on an adventure with him. She wanted to see the other cities. But he was most likely correct...she would end up dead if she set foot onto another species' land. Lilly took a deep breath again. She found her heart was normal pace again, not racing as it had been when he touched her. Had it been fear? Or something else?
Lilly shook her head. Of course it was fear...she didn't even know Aiden very well, so how could it be anything else? Unfortunately, she wasn't completely convinced. She decided to ignore it for now and turned her attention back to the vampire standing before her. "What about you? There must be something interesting about being a vampire. You can't be as boring as a mere human like myself could you?" she said in a partially flirtatious tone, adding a coy smirk to her question.

Aiden stopped pacing to hear her out, and chuckled softly at her self-evaluation. "Well, reading's not boring," he insisted, though adding self-consciously, "Of course...I haven't actually read in a while, but I blame the lack of books at my disposal." Tired of standing, he moved at sat down on a rock next to her tree, leaning over so that he was resting his elbows on his thighs with his hands folded.
"Pubs can be fun," he commented, neglecting to add that night clubs were much more fun, given that there was much better music and company. "Look! we have something in common already," he exclaimed jokingly when she finished her explanation, "I can't sleep at night either." He grinned and winked, then tossed his head so that his hair would get out of his eyes again. It was a futile attempt, but girls seemed to like it when he did that. Most of them, anyway...
He turned and met her gaze while she spoke, listening intently and respectfully to her question. "Well," he began, "there are definitely advantages to being a vampire. I can run faster, jump higher, lift heavier things, beat people up easier...plus the fangs are a very interesting addition to my smile," To demonstrate, he grinned devilishly with his fangs extended. He retracted them quickly, though, not wanting to scare her off.
Aiden noted the flirtacious tone to her voice, as well as the smirk, and had a feeling the night would be fun. He smirked right back, just as playfully, and reached a hand out to twirl a strand of her hair around his finger for a few seconds. "So far," he said, "I can tell you that you haven't bored me. I'd like to return the favor." He slid off the rock and spun 180 degrees so that he was squatting directly in front of her with his arms resting on his thighs again. "Tell me," he asked, "what would you like to do tonight? As long as it doesn't involve being around other vampires or demons, I can probably be of some assistance."
